Program participants should meet at Fernwood Shelter at our Rowe Woods location.
Give back and have a unique experience on a naturalist-guided stream cleanup. We’ll hike out on a trail and back in the stream, collecting trash, checking out stream life, and seeing the Nature Center in a new way.
What to expect: We will be hiking off trail, on rough ground and loose stream rock. Staff will instruct participants on how to safely walk in the stream. We will need to walk through some shallow pools in the stream. We will divide into 3-4 small groups.
Parking: we will meet at the Fernwood Shelter. Once you pass the gatehouse, make a right turn onto Groesbeck Drive and follow the signs to Fernwood Shelter and park.
Phones: we will be in and around the creek, it is suggested to leave your phone at home/in your car. If you do bring it, consider placing it in a plastic bag.
Hands free: we will be using our hands to collect trash and explore stream life. Consider using a backpack for your water bottle and other items you may have with you.
What to bring:
- Bring closed-toed shoes that firmly attach to your feet and can get wet. (Flipflops or Crocs are NOT recommended.) . Old sneakers recommended. We will hike down to the creek and then have an opportunity to change in to water shoes. After the cleanup, we will change back in to dry shoes to avoid potential blisters during the walk back.
- A water bottle is recommended for hydration and some way to carry it.
- Gloves recommended. If you have work gloves, please bring them along.
- Face mask (in case you need to use the restroom). Masks are required while inside all facilities (for example, Rowe Visitor Center, restroom, etc.). Masks are not required outdoors.
Members $5; nonmembers $10 (includes daily admission). Program fees help fund ongoing stream monitoring efforts.

As of August 23, 2021, masks are required in all our buildings for all vaccinated and unvaccinated people (individuals kindergarten and up). Masks are not required outdoors or under pavilions and tents.
*Cancellations must be made at least two weeks in advance of the event. No refunds or transfers of fees will occur if the request is made less than two weeks prior to the event. All programs continue, rain or shine.
Cincinnati Nature Center will run advertised programs and events in accordance with current guidelines outlined by the CDC and local health agencies. The status or format of programs may change based on COVID-19 best practices and conditions at the time of the program. In the event that Cincinnati Nature Center cancels a program, full refunds will be issued.
Important Information For All Program Registrants: Please retain your order number or an electronic copy of your order/email acknowledgement as a receipt. You may be asked for your order number from your transaction to gain entry at the gate/to attend your program.
