Searching For Beavers at LBFT 5/24/2019

This event is no longer on sale.

Friday May 24

7:00 PM  –  9:00 PM

Preregistration required. Geared for families with children ages 5 and up.

Program participants meet at the white Creekside Barn at our Long Branch Farm & Trails location, 6926 Gaynor Road, Goshen, OH 45122. (Get Directions)

On this beaver watch adventure, we’ll have fun with interactive activities (including time travel) and games to help us dig into the rich history of the beaver in Ohio that spans from the fur trade to today. Be prepared to hike on and off trail as we search for beaver-gnawed trees, den entrances, beaver slides and other signs of these 60-pound rodent engineers. As the sun sets, we’ll silently watch for beaver activity from the bank of the stream.

What to wear: We will be headed off trail (optional) for some of the hike, those with sensitive skin are encouraged to consider wearing long pants and dress for the weather.

What to bring: Consider bringing a blanket for your family to sit on as watch for beaver at the end of the evening. You might want to bring binoculars to try to view the beaver. Feel free to put a flashlight in your pocket – we will, however, be keeping our flashlights off to keep from scaring the beaver.

What we need from you: After a short introduction at the barn, we’ll break into small groups and head out to search for signs of beaver and, ask dusk comes on, hope to see beaver in action. While beaver have poor eyesight, they have very good hearing – so as not to frighten the beavers which will cause them to hide, we’ll all need to be very quiet.

Members $5; nonmembers $10 (includes daily admission).
