Meeting Location: Caesar Creek State Park Beach Shelter House, 8570 OH-73, Waynesville, OH 45068
This field trip will explore two of the best birding locations in Greater Cincinnati: Caesar Creek State Park and Spring Valley Wildlife Area. These are located just northeast of Lebanon, Ohio (a 30-minute drive from the intersection of I-275 and I-71). Together, these areas encompass a wide range of habitats including lake, beach, marsh, wetland, forest, field, and open scrub/shrub. Each location has almost 250 species as recorded in eBird. The trip is designed to coincide with the peak of spring migration to maximize seeing as many species as possible. Participants will be able to develop and practice field skills for birding open areas and large bodies of water. Spotting scopes will be available for this purpose. In addition, we should see (and hear) lots of warblers! This trip should build key field skills for identifying birds not commonly seen in woodland or backyard habitat.
We encourage you to study beforehand. You can find bird lists for these areas at the URLs below:

This program is for adults and will cover uneven terrain at a modest pace. We will start at the Caesar Creek Shelter house and hike the Beach and Marina areas. Then, we will take a break and finish the morning with a drive to Spring Valley for the last half of the trip. A map will be available for the drive since the roads can be a bit tricky. Specific plans and locations will be determined based on what is in the area at the time. Spotting scopes will be available for everyone to use.
What to bring:
- paper and pen to record the birds we will see
- water and snack (if desired)
- bird book (if you have one)
- binoculars (if you have them)
