Herb Gardening: Good for You, Good for Wildlife

Registered program participants should meet in the auditorium of our Rowe Woods Visitor Center at our Rowe Woods location.

In this hybrid cooking/gardening class, local author, herbalist and cooking instructor, Rita Heikenfeld will highlight tips on using culinary herbs for flavor and health as she prepares tasty samples that highlight the range of culinary uses for herbs. Pollinator gardening specialist Steve Inglish will enlighten you on the importance of pollinator conservation and how gardening with herbs can benefit pollinators. Herbs will be available for purchase.

About the presenters:

Rita Heikenfeld's gift is growing and teaching about wild edibles, herbs, ethnic and natural foods. Her website abouteating.com reaches people who share their tips, thoughts, recipes and memories. As a writer, Rita pens a weekly column for Community Press Newspapers and writes about food, health, and gardening for national publications. She is also a cooking teacher, Appalachian herbal scholar and accredited family herbalist.

Steve Inglish is a long time Cincinnati Nature Center volunteer and team leader of the Nature Center’s butterfly monitoring program. He serves as a National Wildlife Habitat Ambassador and is an Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist. He has delivered pollinator and habitat-related talks for audiences ranging from garden clubs and churches to the Civic Garden Center and the annual Midwest Native Plant Society Workshop.

Members $12; nonmembers $21. Online tickets purchased for nonmembers include admission.
