Volun-touring

Did you know that service travel doesn’t necessitate going abroad? There are many opportunities for “volun-touring” right here in the Midwest. Learn how you can see new places, enjoy nature and contribute to conservation efforts. Guest speaker is Vernon Cook, Volunteer Leader for the National Outings Program with the Sierra Club.

About the Speaker:

Vernon Cook has led and worked countless service trips as a volunteer for the Sierra Club. His first experience as a service outings leader was on a trail-maintenance trip along the Snake River in Hells Canyon, Idaho, where he has since returned many times. He has also led service trips to Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky.  Why does he lead service trips? “Because I like it. Because the work really needs to be done and won’t otherwise get accomplished.” Vernon believes it is a privilege and a pleasure to help care for our public lands.

"Service is the rent we pay for having room on the Earth". –Unknown
