Native Foraged and Farmed Harvest Days at LBFT 10/16/2021

This event is no longer on sale.

Saturday October 16

3:00 PM  –  5:00 PM

Preregistration required. This program is geared towards adults.

Put your hunter-gatherer instincts to work -- learn by doing as you help forage, harvest from farmed native plants, and wildcraft nature’s fall bounty. We’ll gather together, sample some of our harvest, and pick up some tips for processing while caring for the land. We’ll send you home with inspiration, samples of foraged items, and/or a few seeds of your own to grow and harvest in years to come.

Because nature is on its own timeline, what we harvest will change with each class. Depending upon the week, harvested items may include foraged possibilities like black walnuts, hickory nuts, persimmons, spicebush, native passion fruit, pollinator plant seeds, acorns, Jerusalem artichokes, groundnut, sassafras, goldenrod, and/or others.

In this fully outdoor in-the-field program, we’ll cover:

• What can be foraged in the fall with reminders of basic foraging guidelines and safety

• How to sustainably harvest and how our efforts can improve the land

• How our harvested goods will go back into CNC education and habitat enhancement efforts

• Options for incorporating “good for you/good for wildlife” edible landscaping into your home property

Participants will meet at the white Creekside Barn at Long Branch Farm & Trails, 6926 Gaynor Road, Goshen, OH 45122.

Members $12; nonmembers $21 (includes daily admission).
