Mushroom Cookery (and hopefully foraging) at Long Branch Farm & Trails

Sold Out!

Saturday October 15

Other dates...

2:00 PM  –  4:00 PM

Preregistration is required for this program designed for adults.

Bolster your foraging skills through learning as Emalee and Pete Richman of Rich Life Farm and Fungi showcase their favorite mushroom cooking techniques and recipes. We’ll touch on identification basics and key cautionary notes, ethical mushroom harvesting, how tree identification can help you find mushrooms, and how mushrooms tie into the broader ecology of the land.

Note that mushrooms are notoriously unpredictable. While we are heading out to search for mushrooms, their emergence depends upon rainfall before this class -- we may or may not find any mushrooms.

Long-time foraging group member and mushroom enthusiast Ross Compton will help with mushroom identification on our foray into the woods. We’ll be focusing our search on the top 4-5 common edible autumn species.

What to bring:

  • A pocket knife for harvesting mushrooms.
  • A small basket, or mesh style bag to collect your food in. This prevents moisture from deteriorating the mushrooms and helps to spread their spores.

What to expect and recommended clothing:

  • Dress for the weather, and wear long pants that are either old or resistant to getting caught by briars and burrs
  • This class takes place outside and/or in a non-air conditioned barn.
  • Be prepared for an outdoor class that involves off-trail hiking.

This program meets at the Creekside Barn at our Long Branch Farm & Trails location (6926 Gaynor Rd., Goshen, OH 45122).

Member adult $15; nonmember adult $25 (includes daily admission).
