CANCELED: Meet a Professional Geologist 1/19/17 10 AM

This event is no longer on sale.

Thursday January 19

10:00 AM  –  12:00 PM

We are sorry.  This program is CANCELLED due to low registrations.

Preregistration is required for all students/children participating.  Adult chaperones/parents need not register.  However, all students must have adult supervision for this program.

Program participants should meet at the Visitor Center Auditorium at our Rowe Woods location.

Join Terry Stransky, professional geologist and Nature Center volunteer, as he shares what a geologist does and how he got started on his professional journey. Terry will show and discuss geologist tools like a rock hammer and diamond core drill bit as well as how geologists use topographic, geologic and groundwater maps in the real world. With the aid of rock, mineral and fossil samples, he’ll walk participants through a typical day to reveal how geology helps to turn on our lights, transports electricity to our homes, allow us to take showers and provides building material for our homes and driveways.  Bring in your mystery rocks and fossils for identification. Most appropriate for students in grades 4-6.

Member $6; nonmembers $10 (includes daily admission).

*Please note that cancellations must be made at least two weeks in advance of the event. No refunds or transfers of fees will occur if the request is made less than two weeks prior to the event. All programs continue, rain or shine.
