Recommended Audience: This program is designed for adults. 

Program Description: Learn how to utilize native plants to find ecologically-based landscape solutions. We’ll help you solve common home landscape problems. Glean ideas for your yard as Cincinnati-based ecological landscaping company, Our Land Organics, shares real world, local examples of how they’ve helped homeowners address common landscape problems with forward-thinking solutions that benefit families while supporting ecological resilience. Preregistration required. Member adult $10; nonmember adult $20 (includes daily admission).

In this class, we’ll:

  • detail 3-5 residential projects highlighting different problems/goals that clients have had and how they were solved via design and implementation.
  • showcase examples that include solving rainwater management issues, restoring wooded areas with native plantings, developing overgrown landscape beds into pollinator gardens, best practices with edible landscaping, and developing outdoor living spaces to enjoy it all.
  • explore how the design process, from consultation to installation, can be a collaborative tool for solving problems in the landscape all while creating beautiful and ecologically impactful spaces.

Program Presenter:

John Hemmerle is founder and managing director of Our Land Organics, an ecological landscape design/build company whose mission is to bring people closer to nature through innovative landscape design and management. John’s work incorporates his experience in urban planning, organic market gardening, and landscape architecture to build a future where we steward our landscapes in harmony with nature.

What to expect: This is an indoor talk followed by a question-and-answer session.

Note: This class is intended for homeowners who are looking for ideas that help create attractive home landscapes that are good for wildlife and the family.

Where to Meet: Registered program participants should meet at the Rowe Visitor Center Auditorium at our Rowe Woods location.

Pet Policy for Programs/Events: For the comfort and safety of all guests, no pets are allowed at programs or events. Service animals specifically trained to aid a person with a disability are welcome. Therapy animals, whose function is to provide comfort or emotional support, do not qualify as service animals. Cancellation Policy: Please note that cancellations must be made at least two weeks in advance of the event. No refunds or transfers of fees will occur if the request is made less than two weeks prior to the event. All programs continue, rain or shine. In the event that Cincinnati Nature Center cancels a program, full refunds will be issued. 

Program Policy: Cincinnati Nature Center may update the status or format of programs based on conditions at the time of the program. 

Media Release: All participants (18 and older) associated with this transaction grant permission to Cincinnati Nature Center to utilize images, likenesses, actions, or statements in any form taken during a visit to the Nature Center, Nature Center sponsored event, or virtual presentation for the purpose of promoting the Nature Center in perpetuity.
