We can raise pawpaw trees that benefit both humans and wildlife by understanding how pawpaw trees came about and how they fit into natural systems. Drawing from history, botany, and evolution, we’ll better understand how to choose planting sites, grow a pawpaw tree from a seed, promote pollination, protect fruit from raccoons, harvest and process fruit, and more. Whether you’re growing pawpaw trees in your yard, wondering why there’s no fruit in your woodland pawpaw patch, or trying to raise zebra swallowtail butterflies, this virtual class is for you.

Members $10; nonmembers $10.

About the Instructor: Jason Neumann currently serves at Cincinnati Nature Center’s Public Programs Manager and interpretive trainer. In the early days of his 25 years on the Nature Center staff, he managed the programming at the Nature Center’s Long Branch Farm site when it had been an operating educational farm. While he’s an educator at heart, an agricultural vibe always bubbles right under the surface of everything he does. He earned a BS in Crop and Soil Sciences from Michigan State University and a graduate certificate in Agroforestry from University of Missouri Columbia. He’s on the board of the Ohio Pawpaw Grower’s Association, operates Someday Farm, his suburban Blue Ash backyard farm, started the Nature Center’s Foraging Club in 2013, and has been working on perennial native trees and shrubs on the Long Branch Farm and Trails site for many years.
