Forest Bathing at Long Branch Farm & Trails 6/28/2020

This event is no longer on sale.

Sunday June 28

1:00 PM  –  3:00 PM

Preregistration required for all participants. This is an ADULT class offering. Keenly interested youth ages 13 and up may attend with a parent.

Registered program participants should meet at the white Creekside Barn at Long Branch Farm & Trails, 6926 Gaynor Road, Goshen, OH 45122. (Get Directions) Please bring a mask if you are able. As with all Cincinnati Nature Center programs, participants are encouraged but not mandated to wear masks while participating in an outdoor program. Masks, however, are required to be worn while inside all facilities (for example, Rowe Visitor Center, restroom, etc.).

Forest Bathing, also called Shinrin-yoku, is a practice of immersing yourself in nature that was developed by the Japanese to relieve stress. This guided Forest Bathing walk offers an opportunity to slow down and awaken the senses which allows you to quietly take in nature’s gifts.

Participants should be prepared to arrive early (10 minutes early recommended). The facilitator will head out on the trail promptly at 10 minutes after posted program start time. If you have never been to the Long Branch Farm and Trails location, please plan to leave plenty of extra time to allow you to find the site, park, use restrooms, etc. Forest bathing is a sequential program - late arrivals cannot be inserted into the program.

About the guide: Ellen Foley is a Forest Therapy Guide certified with The Association of Nature and Forest Therapy. Ellen’s experiences finding solace in nature inspire her to guide others in mindfully walking through and connecting with the natural world.

What to expect:  This hike will take place entirely outdoors. Forest Bathing experiences follow a standard sequence that includes quiet, slow, attentive walking, guided sensory experiences, individual mindful time, opportunities for group sharing, and a closing tea ceremony using foraged ingredients. We will be standing or sitting on the group during the periods of sharing.

Forest bathing, by it’s very nature, allows us to spread out for social distancing.

How to dress: We will be out on the trails and moving slowly. Please dress in layers to ensure proper warmth and comfort. This program runs rain or shine.

What to bring: Please bring a “sit-upon.” Anything that you could set down on the ground would work: an old rain jacket, section of a vinyl tablecloth, piece of an old yoga mat, kneeling pad for gardening, piece of cardboard, etc. Members should please bring membership card for access through the automated gate. Registered nonmembers should follow instructions at gate.

Members $12; nonmembers $21. Online tickets purchased for nonmembers include admission.

*Please note that cancellations must be made at least two weeks in advance of the event. No refunds or transfers of fees will occur if the request is made less than two weeks prior to the event. All programs continue, rain or shine.
