Preregistration required. This is an adult class offering. Keenly interested youth ages 13 and up may attend with a parent.
Registered program participants should meet at the Center for Conservation (Groesbeck Estate) at our Rowe Woods location. Participants should be prepared to arrive early (10 minutes early recommended). The facilitator will head out on the trail promptly at 10 minutes after posted program start time. Forest bathing is a sequential program - late arrivals cannot be inserted into the program.
Forest Bathing, also called Shinrin-yoku, is a practice of immersing yourself in nature that was developed by the Japanese to relieve stress. This guided Forest Bathing walk offers an opportunity to slow down and awaken the senses which allows you to quietly take in nature’s gifts.
About the guide: Ellen Foley is a Forest Therapy Guide certified with The Association of Nature and Forest Therapy. Ellen’s experiences finding solace in nature inspire her to guide others in mindfully walking through and connecting with the natural world.
What to expect: This hike will take place entirely outdoors. Forest Bathing experiences follow a standard sequence that includes quiet, slow attentive walking, guided sensory experiences, individual mindful time, opportunities for group sharing and a closing tea ceremony using foraged ingredients.
How to dress: We will be out on the trails and moving slowly. Please dress in layers to ensure proper warmth and comfort. Dress so that you would be warm enough outside if standing with minimal movement. This program runs rain or shine.
What to bring: No equipment is required.
Members $10; nonmembers $19. Online tickets purchased for nonmembers include admission.
