With your powers of observation and a little understanding of how nature works, you can create a garden for wildlife. During this in-the-field class in Anderson Township, you’ll learn how to assess your yard’s moisture and light levels, how to choose native plants that want to be in your yard, strategies for dealing with sod and aggressive introduced landscape plants as well as some planning strategies and tips to ensure success.

About the instructor: Denice Robertson has a PhD in Ecology and is faculty at Northern Kentucky University. She is involved in research on prairie restoration specifically on increasing the success of milkweed. In addition, Denice owns Pollinator Plant Design which is a garden design company focused on creating gardens using native plants that enhance the natural habitat and provide food, shelter, and host plants for pollinators. She has experience dealing with poor drainage, creating a pollinator paradise in a shady yard, and working with areas that contain multiple conditions. She focuses on creating a habitat that works with existing conditions as there are many native plants to enrich any area regardless of the amount of light or water.

What to bring: Please bring your own personal drinking water.
