CANCELED: Battling Green Invaders

This event is no longer on sale.

Saturday May 16

2:00 PM  –  4:00 PM

Preregistration required for this in-person program at our Rowe Woods location. This program is designed to help adults identify and remove invasive plants from their property.

Creating wildlife-friendly yards entails making space for native species and that means removing introduced plants. If you find yourself asking “Which plants are introduced?” or “How do I remove non-native ‘problem’ plants?”, this beginner level class is for you. Using examples from the Nature Center’s gardens and grounds, Natural Areas Project Coordinator Carolyn Ramseur will provide tips and tricks for battling aggressive plants. Member adult $10; nonmember adult $20 (includes daily admission).

In this class, we’ll cover:

  • How invasive species are one of our top ecological issues globally

  • Lessons learned about invasive plants on a historic former horticultural estate and why our plant choices matter

  • Our local top 10 problem plants and our best practice options for managing them on your own land

  • Native alternatives to invasive species/imported plants from around the globe

What to expect: During this 1-mile walk, drawing upon on-the-ground examples of aggressive plants as well as management areas, Carolyn Ramseur will share best practices applicable to your property. We may step off trail to showcase a couple management methods.

About the Instructor Carolyn Ramseur is our Natural Areas Project Coordinator here at the Nature Center.
