A Discussion Group: Sustainable Choices (Online)

This event is no longer on sale.

Wednesday January 19

7:00 PM  –  8:30 PM

Preregistration is required by Tuesday, January 18 at 7 pm.

This will be a live, virtual class on the Zoom meeting platform. Your link to attend the meeting will be sent immediately after registering in a follow-up email. You do not need the Zoom application to participate. If you do not receive your Zoom link by Tuesday, January 18 at 12 pm, please contact us at onlinelearning@cincynature.org.

This group is designed especially for those who are new to learning about sustainability. You’ll have the opportunity to read about, think about, and especially talk about specific ways that each of us can help create an ecologically sustainable world. In this eight-session experience, both a book of selected readings and a companion website will be used to explore the concept of ecological sustainability. We'll explore practical and specific changes we can adopt that will actually make a difference.

The group will meet on online on Zoom on eight Wednesdays, January 19 – March 9, 2022, from 7 – 8:30 pm (Eastern Time):

  • Wednesday, January 19 from 7 – 8:30 pm
  • Wednesday, January 26 from 7 – 8:30 pm
  • Wednesday, February 2 from 7 – 8:30 pm
  • Wednesday, February 9 from 7 – 8:30 pm
  • Wednesday, February 16 from 7 – 8:30 pm
  • Wednesday, February 23 from 7 – 8:30 pm
  • Wednesday, March 2 from 7 – 8:30 pm
  • Wednesday, March 9 from 7 – 8:30 pm

Cost is $10 for the entire series. Member adult $10; nonmember adult $10.

Readings for each session total about twenty pages, and each collection of articles, speeches, interviews, reflections, and graphics is designed to break big issues into manageable pieces for discussion. The accompanying website allows for more explorations, if you are inspired, including the ability to connect with others in the group and around the world who are digging into the same issues.

The book for this group costs $37 plus shipping (total is about $43), and each participant must order their own book at Choices for Sustainable Living – Ecochallenge.org. A limited number of copies may be available to borrow from the Nature Center. Please reach out to Connie O'Connor at coconnor@cincynature.org if you need to borrow one.

The course will be facilitated by Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist (OCVN) Jenni Goldschneider. Jenni is also an OSU Extension Master Gardener Volunteer and recently completed a course on making an impact in conservation. This inspired her to turn inquiry into action with other concerned and curious learners.
