Sunday June 2

2:00 PM  –  3:00 PM

Preregistration is required to reserve your log. This is a program is geared for adults or older youth (age 9 and up accompanied by an adult).

Please join us at the Creekside Barn at our Long Branch Farm & Trails location. (Get Directions)

Fungi are the grand recyclers of the planet and the interface between life and death. Mycelium, the fuzzy, cobweb-like growths of fungi, travel long distances and help nourish other members of the ecological community. Join in the cycle by inoculating your own beech log with blue oyster mushroom spawn.

Blue oyster mushrooms are grown outdoors so you’ll need a shady spot to keep your log. This mushroom species will fruit, depending upon moisture, in summer or fall but might take a year to become established. Mushroom logs will last 2-4 years with proper care. We’ll provide tips and tricks for care of your log. Everything is provided for this class. We will be using power drills (consider ear plugs), mallets and hot wax.

Do bear in mind that each log is 25-40 pounds – we’ll help you get your inoculated log into your car. Bring a plastic sheet or cardboard to keep your car clean.

Members, $20 per log. Non-members, $29 per log (includes admission for one participant).

More than one person may work on a log. You do not need to register additional participant if working on the same log, however, admission will need to be paid at the program ($9, exact amount in cash) if a non-member.  If you are bringing a guest and sharing a log, please make sure your guest can provide your name and references your DIY Mushroom Log Class registration for access to program.
